Members of a local Muslim youth association are not only making a difference in their community, but providing lots of fun for the whole family at the same time.

A team of volunteers from Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association is organizing its second annual Run for Newmarket, a fundraising run which will support different charities each year.

In 2022, Run for Newmarket raised $8000 for Blue Door and $8000 for the Newmarket Food Pantry.

This year, said spokesperson Salman Ahmad, “We are raising funds for CHATS (Community and Home Assistance to Seniors), and the York Region Food Network. We hope to raise funds for different charities each year, through this fundraising run.”

Run for Newmarket is offering 10K and 5K run options, as well as a 1K fun run, in person at Fairy Lake Park in Newmarket.

“There will be 10K and 5K routes for more competitive runners, but to make the event festive and bring the community together, we decided to do a 1K in person fun run or walk, right in the park,” explained Ahmad. “Opening ceremonies are at 9 a.m. on Sunday October 1, and we will have other enjoyable activities and refreshments throughout the morning, to entertain and amuse families who come out.”

Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association has 90 chapters throughout Canada, which support various charitable initiatives and run programming for youth. Last year, eighteen of these local chapters sponsored runs, which collectively have raised millions for charities in their communities.

“The association is an excellent way to bring youth together and show them the value of giving to their community, and participating in their community,” said Ahmad.

Run for Newmarket is actively soliciting sponsors, runners, and donors for the October 1st event.

“You can contact us for sponsorship opportunities, make a donation through our website, or register to run or walk any of the races,” explained Ahmad. “We would be so happy to receive your support, and to meet you on the day of the race.”

Run for Newmarket takes place Sunday October 1, with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m., at Fairy Lake Park in Newmarket. For more information and to register, click here.
