Easter Seals provides programs and services that help kids with physical disabilities develop greater independence so they can break out into the world and carve their own paths.

This year we celebrate 100 years of unwavering commitment to raising the voices of the children and youth who we serve. But we do not work alone.

We partner with individuals and organizations who believe in the breakthrough potential of kids with physical disabilities.

Easter Seals is a registered charitable organization that helps children and youth with physical disabilities from all backgrounds. We assist families with the purchase of essential mobility and accessibility equipment that allows their children to live with greater independence, dignity and freedom in their daily lives. In addition, Easter Seals offers post-secondary scholarships and provides access to information and resources, and public education and awareness.

Easter Seals is also a leader in providing inclusive, specialized recreational programming through our two fully accessible camp properties near Perth (Camp Merrywood) and London (Camp Woodeden) and through our remote camp platform. At these camps the Easter Seal Kids get to do so much more than just attend camp. This is a place where they get to discover more about themselves than anywhere else. The ES Kids get to participate in activities such as swimming, high ropes, white water rafting. The kids also get to plan for camping trips by making their own food and packing for over nights. Problem solving and life skills are apart of everything they do in order to feel confident and independent.

On top of that, and especially after covid, The Easter Seals Kids have been battling like everyone else with mental anxieties about being confined at home. With vulnerable immune systems they had to remain secluded for their health. As we all know first hand, this can be quite taxing on a person mentally. Camp is the only place the kids get to go and be accepted. They build life long lasting friendships and memories.

On top of celebrating 100 years for Easter Seals Ontario, 45 years ago a man by the name of Joe Persechini started a run/walk a-thon for Easter Seals Kids. He made it a mission to ensure he raised as much money and awareness as he could for the kids.

York Region’s longest running run, the Annual Upper Canada Mall 10k/5k Run/Walk/Roll for Easter Seals Kids founded by Joe Persechini in total has raised over $3,000,000 since day one.

This year the run takes place on Sunday May 29, 2022, at Riverwalk Commons in Newmarket.

The event will take you alone the scenic trails of Fairy Lake where we will have lots of nostalgic pictures for you to view of runs from the past. There is a time chipped 10k/5k run for those that are more competitive and for those that want to enjoy being outside can leisurely walk with their friends and family for 5k.
