The weather is warming up and that means it is time to put away the parkas and pull out the spring apparel. Whether you use your safety gear for work or recreation, lighter weight high visibility gear is essential. Austin Ertl, Inside Sales Representative with International Safety, explains the different types of high visibility gear and how to choose the best kinds.

“There are high visibility options available for a number of different specialty safety gear categories. Rainwear, overalls, pants, pullovers, hoodies, vest, and even t-shirts come in high visibility versions. We also carry specialty safety clothing that are a combination of high visibility as well as flame and/or arc resistant,” says Austin. “People can get very specific with safety gear that will protect them for exactly what they’re doing in those clothes.”

CSA Approved High Visibility Gear

Many jobsites require CSA approved high visibility gear, but not all styles on the market follow Canada’s regulations. According to Austin, there are some slight differences.

“Here in Canada, CSA requires an ‘X’ pattern on the back of high visibility clothing. In the U.S., they have bars on the back. Be careful if you’re purchasing your work gear from suppliers outside of the country. Double check that it is CSA approved and has the ‘X’ on the back,” he suggest.

He continues, “CSA has different classes of safety apparel that is required for different circumstances and times of the day or night. Class one gear could be acceptable during the day, but in the evening you need to have class two or three. Our team can help you to figure out exactly what you need.”

Safety Gear for Home Hobbyists

Fire, flame, and arc resistant gear isn’t just for the jobsite. Many hobbyists use safety apparel while working on home projects. Whether you’re a woodworker or a hobby welder, having the right type of gear is important. A safe set of overalls, gloves, eyewear, and hearing protection goes a long way towards keeping your hobby enjoyable and it doesn’t hurt to have high visibility options as well.

“You don’t have to be a professional to require safety equipment,” says Austin. “Home hobbyists also need the right gear in order to stay safe.”

Staying Visible While Enjoying Outdoor Recreation

International Safety also carries items that are great for everyday activities. Their high visibility arm bands are perfect for jogging, walking the dog, or hiking. High visibility vests, armbands, or sashes are also good to keep hikers safe. “We’ve even had some customers put high visibility armbands on their dog’s collars,” says Austin.

If you are thinking ahead to next winter, now is a great time to stock up on high visibility gear at end-of-season prices at International Safety. As always, they offer free delivery for local Newmarket orders.
