YRP charge man for sexual offences against a child

York Regional Police has charged a 30-year-old man from the City of Brampton in connection with sexual offences committed against a child.

In October 2022, police began an investigation involving a 13-year-old sexual assault victim. Through the investigation, officers learned that the victim was approached by the accused at Chinguacousy Park in Brampton in the summer of 2022. Over the course of the summer, the accused had a non-consensual sexual relationship with the victim multiple times, including in his vehicle and in his home.

The accused is possibly employed in the medical field and may have previously been employed at a school in Peel Region. Investigators are releasing his photo and are urging any additional victims or witnesses to come forward.

CHARGED:

·         Greg Scarlett, 30, of the City of Brampton

CHARGES:

·         Sexual Assault x4

·         Sexual Interference - Person Under 16 x4

·         Forcible Confinement

·         Luring a Person Under 16

The accused was arrested on November 7, 2022 and was held for a bail hearing.

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence. If you are the survivor of sexual assault, you can report the incident online if:

·         You are not in immediate danger

·         The person who assaulted you is not present

·         There is no evidence present that may be collected by police (blood, semen, saliva, etc.). Evidence can be collected for up to 12 days after the sexual assault has occurred

·         You have access to a private email address, to which the suspect does not
