York Region man charged with sexual assault in Vaughan mall

York Regional Police have released a photo of Alexander Simonelli, 27, as investigators believe there are other victims who have not yet reported to police.

York Regional Police have charged a man in connection with a sexual offence committed against a youth in Vaughan.

Alexander Simonelli, 27, of Vaughan, is being charged with sexual assault and sexual interference against a person under 16. 

On May 22, police began an investigation after officers received information that a 15-year-old female victim was sexually assaulted while at a store in a mall in the area of Jane Street and Rutherford Road.

According to York Regional Police, Simonelli was located in the mall that same day and charged in connection to the incident. 

Police are releasing a photo of the accused as investigators believe there are other victims who have not yet reported to police.

Sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature and York Regional Police are encouraging those who feel they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police.
