Woman sexually assaulted at Newmarket dog park

A woman was sexually assaulted by a man while at a dog park at Bayview Parkway and Tom Taylor Trail in Newmarket Saturday morning, police said.

A man followed a woman into the park and started a conversation with her July 22 between 11 and 11:30 a.m, according to a York Regional Police news release. He then repeatedly touched her in a sexual manner until the victim was able to get away, police said.

Police describe the suspect as a male aged 50 to 55, with light skin, 5 feet 6 inches tall with medium build, blue eyes, short black hair with grey streaks, clean shaven, and a Middle Eastern accent. 

The suspect was wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt, walking a large dog, possibly a Bernese mountain dog, with long black, brown and white fur, wearing a black harness, police said.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who can identify the suspect to come forward.
