Woman, 74, suffers injuries after being robbed on street

The suspects asked for directions from a vehicle, then removed Newmarket victim's jewelry

York Regional Police is seeking public assistance for information that may lead to the identification of two suspects following a street-level robbery in the Town of Newmarket.

On Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, shortly after 2 p.m., a 74-year-old female was walking on John Bowser Crescent, which is in the area of Davis Drive West and Eagle Street West.

A black, four-door Chrysler sedan with two occupants approached the female and asked for directions to the hospital. When the female assisted with directions, the two occupants of the vehicle began showing her jewellery and asking if she wanted a gift.

During the interaction one of the occupants removed the victims’ necklace as well as attempting to steal her bracelets. The suspects tried to drive away, knocking the victim to the ground. The victim suffered minor injuries.

Investigators are releasing video of the incident and are seeking public assistance to identify the vehicle and the suspects.

Suspect #1:

  • Male, white
  • 30 to 40 years
  • Blond hair
  • Spoke Farsi

Suspect #2:

  • Female, white
  • 50 to 55 years
  • Blond, straight, shoulder-length hair
  • Spoke Farsi

Suspect vehicle

  • Black, four-door, Chrysler 300 or 200
  • Red interior
