A violent carjacking in Newmarket resulted in injuries to one woman and her vehicle in a snowbank on Tuesday.

On Feb. 8 at about 9:40 a.m., York Regional Police were called to the area of Davis Drive and Roxborough Road where a female had parked her grey 2019 Audi Q5 in an underground parking garage. She was standing outside the vehicle when she was approached by a male suspect who demanded her keys, police said.

The victim refused and was assaulted by the man, police said. Her injuries required medical attention.

The suspect took the keys and fled in the vehicle, followed by a second suspect driving a sedan.

When officers arrived, they found the Audi stranded in a snowbank, just south of the location from where it was stolen, with the engine still running. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled in the sedan with the second suspect prior to police arriving, according to police.

The first suspect is described as male, in his mid-20s, with a slim build. The suspect driving the sedan is described as male.

Investigators are asking any witnesses or anyone who has video surveillance or dashcam footage from the area to come forward. Anyone with information can call the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6631, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips, leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.
