'Violent and potentially dangerous' suspect sought in axe attack

Police are looking for Alexander Gordon Dykes after a man was attacked with an axe Dec. 13 in Richmond Hill.

York Regional Police investigators are looking for a suspect they describe as “violent and potentially dangerous” in connection with an assault involving an axe in Richmond Hill last week.

On Dec. 13 at about 7 p.m., a suspect was at a home on Highland Park Boulevard when he got into an altercation with another man and assaulted him with an axe, according to a news release. The victim fought off the attack and contacted police.

Alexander Gordon Dykes, 59, of no fixed address, is wanted for assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and two counts of failure to comply with probation. He was last seen Dec. 13 in the area of Highland Park and Yonge Street.

Police added he is known to carry various weapons, such as a hammer or an axe.

The suspect stands five-foot-11 and weighs 181 pounds.

“Due to his unpredictable and potentially violent nature, we urge the public to use caution if they come into contact with him. Do not approach. Call 911 immediately,” police said.
