VIDEO: Four charged in string of Markham gas station robberies

Police still seeking a fifth suspect

Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged four men in a series of thefts and robberies from gas stations in the City of Markham and are seeking assistance from the community to identify a fifth suspect.

On Thursday, April 2, 2020 shortly after 2 a.m., [it is alleged that] three men entered a gas station located at 550 Bur Oak Ave. and began stealing cigarettes. When the employee asked them to stop, one of the suspects threatened to kill him. The suspects fled in a vehicle that was described as a blue Dodge Charger, driven by a fourth suspect.

Investigators were able to link the suspects to nine other similar incidents that had occurred at gas stations in Markham since Feb. 10, 2020.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2020, three of the suspects were arrested. On Saturday, April 18, 2020, a fourth suspect was placed under arrest.

These four suspects have been charged.

  • Mahamad Mohamed, 26, City of Markham

Charges:

  • Robbery x2
  • Assault
  • Theft under $5,000 x4
  • Breach of probation x3

Charged:

  • Hanad Ahmed, 25, City of Markham

Charges:

  • Robbery x1
  • Theft under $5,000 x4
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

Charged:

  • Harun ALI, 28, City of Toronto 

Charges:

  • Theft under $5,000 x2

Charged:

  • Mahommed Kabir, 24, City of Markham

Charges:

  • Robbery x1
  • Theft under $5,000 x3

Investigators are releasing an image and video surveillance of the fifth unidentified suspect and are seeking public assistance to identify him. 

Suspect description:

  • Male, Black
  • 20 to 25 years
  • 6’ to 6”2”
  • Slim build
  • Short black hair
  • Wearing black clothing, including a Moncler hooded sweatshirt with white lettering on the front of the neck area
