VIDEO: 911 call leads to impaired arrest at Keswick Tim Hortons

The caller advised that the suspect's vehicle had collided with another vehicle in the drive-through line Sunday night

A call to 911 from a concerned citizen has led to the arrest of an impaired driver in the Town of Georgina.

On Sunday, April 5, 2020, at approximately 9 p.m., York Regional Police received a call to 911 from a concerned citizen who had spotted a suspected impaired driver in the drive-through line at a coffee shop located at 24266 Woodbine Ave. The caller advised that he had seen the suspect bump into another car in the drive-through. When the driver exited his vehicle to see if there was any damage, he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

When officers arrived, they located the vehicle and spoke with the driver who was showing signs of impairment. The driver was given a standard field sobriety test, which he failed. He was placed under arrest and taken to #1 District for a breath test, which he also failed.

Charged:

  • 31-year-old man from the Town of Georgina

Charges: 

  • Impaired driving
  • 80 plus

In 2019, York Regional Police received 3,500 calls to 911 reporting suspected impaired drivers as part of our Safe Roads, Your Call program. That was an increase of nearly 18 per cent from the previous year. Many of those calls led to the more than 1,700 impaired-related criminal charges laid. So far in 2020, there have been 725 calls to 911 to report suspected impaired drivers. If you see dangerous driving on the road that could jeopardize the safety of motorists and pedestrians, you are encouraged to call 9-1-1 immediately.
