Victim confronts suspects in Markham catalytic converter theft

The brazen driveway theft that was captured on video is Crime Stoppers of York Region's crime of the week

A catalytic converter theft was interrupted when the vehicle owner heard noises outside on his driveway and confronted the suspects.

The incident happened at about 4:25 a.m. May 22 at a home in Markham. The suspects were seen on video surveillance backing their car into a driveway and parking beside the victim's vehicle, according to Crime Stoppers of York Region's crime of the week.

The three suspects then used a hydraulic car jack to raise the vehicle and cut the catalytic converter out from under it. 

The victim interrupted the suspects, who then fled the scene in a white Hyundai four-door sedan with silver rims. 

The driver is described as a male, aged 20 to 30, with a medium build and short dark hair. At the time he was wearing a dark blue zip-up hooded sweater that said Canada across the front, black shorts, black shoes, and a black face mask. He was wearing a knee brace on his left leg. 

The second suspect, who was in the passenger seat, is also described as a male, aged 20 to 30, with a medium build and short dark hair. He was a blue t-shirt, black pants, black shoes, and a black face mask. 

The third suspect, sitting in the back seat, is described as a male, aged 20 to 30 with a thin build. He was wearing a grey tshirt, black pants, black and white running shoes, and a black face mask.
