Victim 'assaulted repeatedly' in Richmond Hill robbery attempt

Police say a 60-year-old woman was attacked after she refused to let two suspects, one with a handgun, into a currency exchange store on Steeles Avenue West

A 60-year-old woman was assaulted during an attempted robbery at a Richmond Hill currency exchange store Friday, York Regional Police said.

Police responded to a report of a robbery at the currency exchange store on Steeles Avenue West, east of Palm Gate Boulevard, on Feb. 17 at approximately 10:05 a.m.

The female victim had been unlocking the door when two men, one holding a handgun, approached her from behind and demanded she open the door and go inside. The victim refused and the suspects assaulted her repeatedly before leaving the area in a dark-coloured vehicle driven by a third suspect, police said.

The victim was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

The two suspects are described as male, Black, between 5’10” and 6’1” with slim builds. The third suspect and the driver of the vehicle is described as female.
