Officers have charged two drivers in one vehicle with impaired-related criminal driving offences following a single-vehicle collision in the City of Vaughan.

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019, shortly after 7 a.m., calls were placed to 911 to report a single-vehicle collision that had occurred near the intersection of Regency Gate and Franklin Avenue. When officers arrived they found a male and a female standing beside a blue Honda Civic with damage to the front end, parked on Franklin Avenue. Officers also saw two open cans of beer on the road behind the vehicle and a trail of debris leading to a pole that had been knocked down.

Officers learned that both the male and the female had been seated in the driver’s seat and were both operating the vehicle when it left the roadway, collided with the pole and was then driven further down the road. While speaking with the drivers, officers could smell alcohol coming from them and they were both placed under arrest for impaired driving.

They were transported to #4 District Headquarters for breath tests where they both failed by exceeding the allowable amount of alcohol in their systems.

  • 31-year-old male from the City of Markham
  • 26-year-old female from the Town of Newmarket

Charges:

  • Impaired operation
  • 80 Plus
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
