2 detained after fleeing scene of crash on Highway 400 (6 photos)

After a search of the area of the collision, OPP say a loaded handgun and drugs were found

The occupants involved in a single vehicle crash on Highway 400 early Sunday afternoon have been detained by OPP. 

At approximately 12:30 p.m. Sunday, OPP, EMS and Bradford Fire responded to single vehicle accident on Highway 400 at Line 5 in Bradford.

The vehicle had missed the off ramp to Line 5 and travelled down a long ditch where it eventually stopped.

Tow truck drivers say the two occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. OPP eventually detained the two about half a kilometre from the scene. The female occupant had fled in bare feet.

In a search of a bridge near the scene after the crash, officers seized a loaded handgun and various drugs, OPP say.

A 30-year-old St. Catharines man and a female under the age of 18 were arrested, according to police.
