Two dead in Vaughan house fire

Two others were able to escape the blaze uninjured

Two people are dead after a house fire in Vaughan last night.

Firefighters were called to Conley Street near Steeles Avenue West and New Westminster Drive Saturday, Jan. 6 at about 8:15 p.m

In a news release, York Regional Police say the bodies of two adults were found in the basement of the home.

Two more adults who were in the upper level of the house were able to escape the blaze uninjured.

 Investigators are now trying to determine the cause of the fire.

Vaughan mayor Steven Del Duca expressed condolences to "the families, neighbours and everyone who is impacted by the residential fire."

"The effects of events such as this one can be felt by the entire community; our hearts are heavy for the loss of two individuals. An investigation will take place to determine the origin and cause of this tragedy," he stated on social media.
