Two 18-year-olds face murder charges in Vaughan shooting

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have charged two men following a shooting in the City of Vaughan.

On Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, shortly after 2 a.m., York Regional Police began investigating after a male victim attended a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers gained information through the investigation that the shooting occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m., after an altercation outside of a residence in the area of Cranston Park Avenue and Ridgeway Court in Vaughan. Suspects fled the scene in a dark-coloured vehicle.

The victim, 17-year-old Azando Fearon, from the City of Toronto, died from his injuries in hospital.

On Thursday, October 24, 2019, investigators with the assistance of the York Regional Police Emergency Response Unit executed warrants in the Cities of Toronto and Vaughan and two men were placed under arrest. Charged:

  • Babatunji Fasoranti, 18, City of Vaughan 
  • Jahvon Powell, 18, City of Toronto

Charges:

  • Second Degree Murder

Mr. Fasoranti has been held in custody and will be appearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Nov. 22, 2019.

Mr. Powell has also been held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 19, 2020.
