Toronto man accused of trying to burn down a Markham home

Police say the homeowner was able to safely exit the residence

Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have laid charges against a 34-year-old man after a fire at a residence in the City of Markham.

On Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at approximately 11 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Black Cherry Drive, which is in the area of Raymerville Drive and McCowan Road, for a fire.

Fortunately, the homeowner was able to safety exit the residence and there were no injuries.

Thanks to assistance from the community, investigators were able to successfully identify the suspect and he has been charged.

Charged:

  • Evan Houston, 34, City of Toronto

Charges:

  • Arson with Disregard for Human Life
  • Possession of Incendiary Material
  • Uttering Threats: Person
  • Uttering Threats: Property
  • Breach of Peace Bond x2 

The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018.
