TORONTO - Two residents of the Greater Toronto Area have been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder after continuance of a traditional organized crime (TOC) investigation.

On June 28, 2019 a press conference was held to announce charges as a result of an investigation, Project Kraken, led by Toronto Police Service (TPS) into members of a street gang. The OPP were asked to assist investigating a traditional organized crime (TOC) cell. In June, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) assisted TPS with the execution of 45 search warrants across the Greater Toronto Area.

The investigation gleaned further evidence for conspiracy to commit murder charges. Girolamo Commisso, 31 of Toronto; and Jonnathan Salazar-Blanco, 33 of North York, have been arrested and charged today after members of the OPP, TPS and CFSEU executed search warrants based on the evidence gathered through Project Kraken.

During the search warrants executed today, the investigative team seized a stolen .25 calibre handgun and Alexander Yizhak, 29 of Thornhill, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
    •    91(1) possess prohibited firearm;
    •    91(1) possess prohibited firearm;
    •    92(1) possess firearm no licence;
    •    95(1) possess loaded firearm;
    •    86(1) careless storage of a firearm; and
    •    96(1) possess stolen firearm.

The accused persons were held in custody upon arrest and are expected to appear at an Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto at various dates and times.
