Teen facing weapon, robbery charges after Richmond Hill carjacking

Four teenagers have been arrested following a traffic stop relating to a carjacking that took place in Richmond Hill.

On May 5, York Regional Police responded to the report of a carjacking in the area of Elgin Mills Road and Leslie Street. Police say the victim was out of his vehicle in a parking lot when he was struck from behind. His vehicle was then stolen.

Police identified a suspect and, on June 15, they conducted a traffic stop. The suspect and “several” other occupants were in the vehicle, police said in a news release. The suspect was arrested and a firearm was found in a duffel bag.

Amir Hessami, 18, of Richmond Hill, has been charged with robbery with a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of restricted or prohibited ammunition, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, and two counts each of disobeying a court order and failing to comply with a sentence or disposition.

Three other males, ages 15, 16 and 17, of Richmond Hill, who were in the vehicle were also arrested and charged in relation to the firearm.
