York Regional Police is investigating a collision involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV this morning in Vaughan in which the 93-year-old driver of a Jeep Compass was killed.

Police say the crash took place around 9:50 a.m. on Jane Street near the exit ramp from westbound Highway 407.

Investigators believe the Jeep was driven onto Jane from the westbound 407 exit ramp and collided with the 18-wheel tractor-trailer travelling north on Jane.

The force of the impact caused the transport to flip onto its side, police said in a news release.

The driver of the Jeep was extracted from his vehicle and rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the transport truck was not injured.

Jane was closed between Highway 7 and Steeles Avenue and the exit ramps from Highway 407 onto Jane were are also closed while police investigated.

Police are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, as well as anyone who may have dashcam or any other video recordings of the area around the time of the collision, to contact investigators.
