Suspect wanted for setting fire in residential building in Richmond Hill

The whole building was evacuated and there was significant fire damage reported, according to Crime Stoppers of York Region's crime of the week

A young man hid in the stairwell of a residential building in Richmond Hill before starting a fire, causing the whole building to be evacuated and leading to significant damage, according to York Regional Police.

The suspect was pictured on surveillance video at 5 Weldrick Rd. on Feb. 25. He was dropped off in a newer model grey Ford F150 truck at about 8 p.m. He hid in a stairwell and between 2 and 2:45 a.m. he started a fire on the third floor, Crime Stoppers of York Region stated in a news release.

The suspect is now wanted by police for arson and is Crime Stoppers' crime of the week. 

He is described as a white male, aged 18 to 25, with a thin build and short dark hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black winter coat with a fur-lined hood, dark shoes and black Under Armour track pants and carrying a black Under Armour backpack and a white water bottle.
