Suspect uses bolt cutters to steal MacBook from Newmarket store

Surveillance footage released by Crime Stoppers York Region shows a male fleeing Staples with the $2,500 laptop

A suspect stole a MacBook from the Staples store in Newmarket after using bolt cutters to remove a security device, York Regional Police say. 

Surveillance footage from the store at 17810 Yonge St. released by Crime Stoppers York Region shows the incident occurred at about 4 p.m. on Aug. 13. The suspect took a pair of bolt cutters and removed a security cable from an Apple MacBook, then fled the store on foot with it. The laptop is worth $2,500. 

The suspect was last seen running in the direction of Davis Drive and William Booth Avenue, which is west of Yonge Street, behind Upper Canada Mall. 

The suspect is described as an Asian male, age 18 to 20, with dark hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing glasses, a black t-shirt, black shorts, dark running shoes and a black backpack.
