SIU notified after shots fired in response to Vaughan home invasion

York Regional Police have notified Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) after an officer discharged their firearm in the course of responding to a home invasion in Vaughan.

On Dec. 24, 2023, at 1:52 a.m., York Regional Police received a report of a home invasion in progress at a residence in the area of Forest Drive and Harmonia Crescent. Responding officers encountered three suspects and during the interaction an officer discharged their firearm multiple times.

One suspect was taken into custody and two fled the scene.

The arrested suspect was not shot. There are no reports of any serious injuries.

The SIU was notified due to the police discharge of a firearm and they have invoked their mandate.

A 26-year-old male from Toronto is charged with Robbery with a Firearm, Disguise with Intent, Possession of a Restricted/Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000. He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.

The York Regional Police Holdup Unit is conducting a parallel investigation.
