Senior seriously injured after being stabbed, robbed in Markham

York Regional Police have charged a 33-year-old man from Niagara Falls in connection with a stabbing and robbery in Markham. 

Police were called to the area of Laird Drive and Marydale Avenue for a report of a robbery Friday, Feb. 24 at around 5 p.m.

An elderly man had been stabbed and robbed while walking home from a nearby financial institution. 

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remains in hospital but is expected to survive, police said in a news release.

Through investigation, a suspect was identified. Several search warrants were executed at locations associated with the suspect and on Monday, March 6, he was arrested in the Hamilton area.  

Brandon Omardeen, 33, of Niagara Falls is charged with: robbery; aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose; and disguise with intent.

The accused was held in custody and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket.
