Residents near Prospect Street, Gorham Street and Davis Drive may be noticing a heavy police presence in their neighbourhoods as York Regional Police search for a suspect following an assault in Newmarket this morning.
The suspect is described as a white male and was last seen wearing a green shirt, police said.
Police are asking residents to call with any information and not to approach the suspect.
The assault took place on a property in the area and the two people involved in the assault were known to each other, police said.
Police added the investigation is ongoing and there is no risk to the public.
