Richmond Hill, Vaughan men arrested in 2019 double shooting in Markham

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have arrested and charged two men in connection with a double shooting in the City of Markham in 2019.

On Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019 shortly after 11 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a restaurant located at 5460 Highway 7 East, after several calls came in reporting sounds of gunshots. Witnesses reported seeing a motorcycle fleeing from the scene at a high rate of speed.

When officers arrived, they located a man who was deceased at the scene and a woman who was suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to hospital in critical condition.

The female victim has since recovered from her injuries.

Through the investigation, officers identified two suspects. They were arrested and charged on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021.

    •    Trung Van Duong, 37, of Vaughan

Charges:
    •    first degree murder
    •    attempted murder

Charged:
    •    Saeed Savalanpour, 33, of Richmond Hill

Charges:
    •    first degree murder
    •    attempted murder
