A 25-year-old Richmond Hill man was charged with careless driving after a passenger was sitting on the windowsill of a moving vehicle.

On Sunday, July 4, 2021, at approximately 12:20 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer observed a vehicle driving on Holland Street West in Bradford with a man sitting on the windowsill of the rear right passenger door. The man had his left hand on the roof, a cell phone in his right hand and appeared to be recording a video.

The officer observed the vehicle accelerate to an estimated speed of 50 km/h from the intersection of Simcoe Road and Holland Street West. Police conducted a traffic stop and observed that the passenger who had been hanging out the window was intoxicated.

As a result of the investigation, 25-year-old Albert Avanesyan of Richmond Hill was charged with careless driving.

The passenger, 29-year-old Maksym Krasnikov of Toronto, was charged with:

  • Passenger – fail to occupy position with seatbelt and;
  • Passenger – fail to properly wear seatbelt.

Thanks to the officer, this dangerous stunt was stopped and everyone involved went home safe and sound.

The outcome could have been tragic.
