South Simcoe Police Service officers celebrated Larry's 94th birthday Tuesday.

The kind action of a retired York Regional Police officer helped return a senior to her rest home in Bradford.

He had a noticed a woman outside who was not dressed for the weather at about 7 a.m. yesterday, Jan. 10.

It appeared she had spent the night outdoors, according to a South Simcoe Police Services news release.

He drove her to the local South Simcoe police station, police said.

"While awaiting paramedics, an officer provided the very cold senior with a bagel and much needed coffee to warm up. It was determined the woman resided at a local rest home and they were unaware she had left," police said.

The woman was taken to hospital for further assessment, police added.

The kind act came the day after another incident in which South Simcoe officers assisted a Bradford senior.

On Monday, Jan. 9 at about 11 a.m., an officer was entering a business in Bradford when she spotted a senior outside who said he wanted to buy eggs. As the business did not sell food, the officer invited the man with his walker into her cruiser and drove him to a grocery store.

After running inside to purchase the eggs, the officer then took him to his nearby retirement residence.

The senior, named Larry, told the officer his 94th birthday was the following day.

"Upon learning the senior would be spending his 94th birthday by himself, the officer gathered her platoon mates, purchased a colourful birthday cake and delivered it ... to the surprised senior to help celebrate his special day," police said.

"It is the second time in less than 24 hours that officers have assisted an elderly resident in our communities."
