A man armed with a baseball bat fled on foot after demanding cash and lottery tickets at Newmarket gas station early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the gas station at Leslie Street and Green Lane at about 3 a.m. May 10 for a report of a robbery, according to York Regional Police.

The man is described as male, white, in his early teens, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a thin build and short, buzz-cut, dark-brown hair.

He was wearing a black hoodie, black running shoes, black and white pants, and his face was covered with a medical mask.

The employee was not physically injured in the incident.

Investigators from the hold-up unit remind business owners of the importance of maintaining and updating video surveillance equipment to help identify suspects and aid in arrests.
