Police investigating suspicious death after remains found in Newmarket

Remains of an adult woman were found in the woods yesterday behind a medical building parking lot at Davis Drive and Bayview Parkway

The human remains of an adult female have been found in a forested area near the Tannery and Tom Taylor Trail in Newmarket.

The remains were found in the woods behind Dixon Medical Centre parking lot at the northwest corner of Davis Drive and Bayview Parkway, just east of the Tannery Mall and the Tom Taylor Trail.

York Regional Police are investigating it as a homicide after being notified of the found human remains on Oct. 19 at about 4 p.m.

Police said the age and identity of the female are unknown and that the circumstances of her death are suspicious.

A portion of the trail remains closed as the investigation continues, with police searching for evidence and canvassing for witnesses.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information or video surveillance recordings of the area who have not yet spoken with police, are urged to come forward as soon as possible, police said.
