Police investigating racist graffiti in Richmond Hill

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hate Crime Unit and the #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are appealing for witnesses after a hate-motivated incident in the City of Richmond Hill.

On Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020 shortly after 9 a.m., York Regional Police were called to Lacona Crescent, which is in the area of Bayview Avenue and Old Colony Road, for a report of racist graffiti. When officers arrived, they found that an anti-Black message had been spray painted on a sidewalk. The City of Richmond Hill attended and cleaned the sidewalk.

Investigators are asking any witnesses, anyone with information or anyone with residential video surveillance footage in that area who have not yet spoken with investigators to please come forward.

York Regional Police does not tolerate hate crime in any form. Those who victimize individuals based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or mental or physical disability will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
