Police identify victim, suspect in fatal shooting in Vaughan

York Regional Police is identifying a victim and seeking a suspect wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder after a fatal shooting in Vaughan last month.

Alexander Mills-Smith, 24, of Toronto died in hospital as a result of gunshot wounds following a shooting March 9 at 3:45 a.m. in the area of Dufferin Street and Summeridge Drive, police said in a news release.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for Illia Ayo, 20, of no fixed address, for a charge of first-degree murder and two charges of attempted murder.

Ayo is described as a Black male, 20, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 140 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes.

Ayo, who is known to have associates in London, Ont., as well as Calgary, is considered to be armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him should not interact with him, but call 911 as soon as possible, police said.

Following the March 9 shooting in Vaughan, police became aware of two additional victims with gunshot wounds found by police in Toronto. A 20-year-old male with serious injuries and a 21-year-old female with minor injuries, both of Toronto, were transported a local hospital.

The female was treated and released; the male remains in serious condition.

Police determined they were at the shooting scene in Vaughan, where they sustained their injuries before leaving the scene in a vehicle that has been recovered.
