Over 100 charges laid during road safety and enforcement blitz

During the blitz, officers carried out 65 safety inspections on commercial motor vehicles; 70 per cent of those vehicles were taken out of service, police say

The York Regional Police Road Safety Bureau, Regional Enforcement of Priorities (REP) team partnered with officers from 2, 4 and 5 Districts and laid more than 100 charges during a road safety education and enforcement blitz as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping York Region roads safe.

On Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, members of the REP team led the vehicle safety enforcement and blitz in Whitchurch-Stouffville, Richmond Hill and Aurora. During the blitz, officers conducted 65 safety inspections on commercial motor vehicles. Disturbingly, 70 per cent of those vehicles had to be taken out of service, with a total of 117 Highway Traffic Act charges laid.

Commercial motor vehicle owners and operators are reminded to inspect their vehicles regularly and follow all Highway Traffic Act requirements.

Road safety continues to be among the top community concerns in York Region. Motor vehicle collisions, which are often preventable, have a significant impact on our citizens. Reducing fatalities and serious injuries caused by collisions on our roads has always been, and continues to be, one of the top priorities of York Regional Police.
