Ontario hockey coach, York Region teacher arrested for sexual offences against child

York Regional Police has charged Kelvin Cheuk-Ho Lee, 40, of the Town of Whitchurch Stouffville in connection with sexual offences committed against a child.

On Feb. 9, 2022, police began an investigation into a hockey coach after officers received information regarding a sexual assault victim.

Through the investigation, officers learned that the victim had been sexually assaulted while participating in private hockey lessons with the accused between 2016 and 2022, beginning when he was approximately eight years old.

The accused has been coaching hockey throughout Ontario for many years and has been a camp director with Haliburton Hockey Haven since 2016.

He’s also a teacher in the York Region District School Board, where he coaches sports, and a seasonal part-time tennis coach at the Markham Tennis Club.

Investigators are releasing his photo and are urging any additional victims or witnesses to come forward.

The accused was arrested on Feb. 11, 2022, and was held for a bail hearing.

He was charged with:

  • 4 counts of sexual assault
  • Four counts of sexual interference with a person under 16-years-old

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature.

York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police.

There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.

If you are the survivor of sexual assault, you can report the incident online if:

You are not in immediate danger

The person who assaulted you is not present

There is no evidence present that may be collected by police (blood, semen, saliva, etc.). Evidence can be collected for up to 12 days after the sexual assault has occurred

You have access to a private email address, to which the suspect does not
