A 24-year-old man has been arrested for two sexual assaults in Vaughan after "keen-eyed" patrol officers spotted a man fitting a wanted description last night.

Frontline officers were at a public transit station near Millway Avenue and Apple Mill Road at 10:45 p.m. April 20, 2023 when they recognized the suspect as he walked by and arrested him, York Regional Police said in a news release.

The Vaughan resident, who was held for a bail hearing, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault. Police are not releasing the name of the accused as he is considered a vulnerable person.

On March 27 between 10 and 11 p.m., a 17-year-old female was sitting on a bench in a bus shelter at Fisherman’s Way and Edgeley Boulevard when she was inappropriately touched by a man, police said.

On April 10 at 2:55 p.m., a 23-year-old woman sitting on a bench in a bus shelter at Weston and Rutherford roads was inappropriately touched by a man walking by, police said.

Investigators believe there may be other victims, as well as witnesses, who have not yet come forward and are urging anyone with information to contact police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police special victims unit-sexual assault section at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7071 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online.
