South Simcoe police aren’t looking for suspects, but the case involving the discovery of two bodies inside a Bradford home on May 17 is still technically open.
In an update to the Bradford West Gwillimbury/Innisfil Police Services Board May 29, South Simcoe Deputy Chief Sheryl Sutton gave a few more details regarding the incident, which occurred on Depeuter Crescent in the north end of the town.
She says a neighbour found a note on the driveway of the residence, which stated one of the occupants had killed his wife. This prompted police to attend the home for a wellness check around 6:15 p.m. that day.
Officers arrived at the residence and found the front door open and two people dead inside.
“We’re not looking for any suspects, there’s no danger to the public, but our criminal investigations bureau (is) looking into that,” Sutton said. “Basically it was a murder-suicide. It was domestic related. Still requires full investigation.”
In a recent news release, police also confirmed the deaths were connected to intimate partner violence.
“In the days prior to police arrival, the perpetrator, a male in his late 60s, killed his wife, who was in her late 50s, then committed suicide,” the release stated, adding they are “actively investigating the reasons that motivated this tragic incident.”
The couple lived in Bradford for “several decades,” police said, noting there had been no prior police calls to the residence.
Police urge victims of intimate partner violence to seek support by contacting law enforcement or women’s shelters.
