A Newmarket woman was robbed of both her vehicle and dog while leaving a local veterinary clinic Monday night — only to have them returned to a neighbour's driveway the next morning.
The 78-year-old woman reported the carjacking of her 2015 silver Nissan Rogue and theft of her shih-poo Bobby at about 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at the clinic at Eagle Street and Davis Drive Aug. 29, York Regional Police said.
Police learned that the woman was in the parking lot when she was pushed to the ground, sustaining minor injuries, and had her vehicle keys taken.
The suspect drove off in her SUV, with Bobby in the front seat.
The next day, police were called at about 9 a.m. to a report that the stolen vehicle had been returned to a neighbour's driveway with Bobby inside, unharmed.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for robbery for Gurpreet Singh, 25, of Brampton. He is described as Middle Eastern male with a thin build and dark hair. At the time, he was possibly wearing a white t-shirt and black pants.
If you see the suspect, you are advised not to approach and to call 911 immediately.
