A 41-year-old Newmarket man has been arrested after a 70-year-old pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck yesterday in St. Catharines.

A male pedestrian was transported to an out-of-region hospital in critical condition with what was believed to be life-threatening injuries following the collision Oct. 3 at about 8:11 a.m. at the intersection of Glenridge Avenue and Glen Morris Drive, according to a Niagara Police Service news release.

The condition of the male pedestrian has been upgraded. He remains in hospital with serious injuries, police added.

The initial investigation determined the pedestrian was struck as he crossed the roadway by a grey 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, police said.

A Newmarket resident, whose name has not been released by police, has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with the offence of turn not in safety, police said.

The intersection was closed during the investigation and reopened at approximately 3:15pm. This incident created traffic disruptions that also affected vehicles attending the two high schools in the immediate area, police added.
