Newmarket driver charged with failing to stop at collision scene

A 43-year-old from Newmarket has been charged after a person drove on the wrong side of the ride and attempted to drive around a firefighter holding a stop sign at a collision scene on Highway 10 in Chatsworth Township yesterday.

The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were investigating when the vehicle on the wrong side of the road crested a hill to pass a line of traffic and then attempted to drive around a firefighter holding a stop sign on Oct. 4 at 8:38 a.m., according to a news release.

The Newmarket resident has been charged with: drive left of centre - approaching crest of grade, and fail to obey traffic control stop sign.

Police are not identifying the accused individual.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on Oct. 12, 2023.

The OPP reminds motorists to slow down, be cautious and prepare to stop when approaching emergency scenes.
