Man charged after knife brandished in Markham perfume theft spree

Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a 31-year-old male following robberies in the City of Markham.

Between Wednesday July 6, 2022 to Wednesday Aug. 17, 2022, police responded to the area of Warden Avenue and Steeles Avenue East for separate reports of commercial robberies and thefts involving the same male suspect at the same location.

These incidents involved a male suspect who was seen entering the store and taking a quantity of perfume bottles without paying before fleeing the scene. When employees tried to confront the male suspect, he would brandish a knife.

No employees sustained physical injuries.

On Tuesday Aug. 23, 2022, investigators executed a search warrant on a residence in Toronto. During the execution of the warrant another robbery occurred at the same location by the same male suspect. The suspect was located and taken into custody. The stolen property and knife were recovered.

The investigation is ongoing.

  • Michael Chichioco, 31, of Toronto

  • Robbery x2
  • Uttering Threats to Person
  • Theft Shoplifting Under $5,000 x3
