Nearly $500K in drugs seized from Markham homes

Police seized nearly $490,000 worth of suspected drugs from two Markham homes.

Two Markham residents have been arrested as part of an investigation that yielded nearly half a million dollars’ worth of drugs.

York Regional Police were informed about ketamine being trafficked out of a home in the area of 14th Avenue and Markham Road and a residence near Denison Street and Brimley Road on Sept. 27, according to a news release.

Search warrants were executed at the homes and police seized 9.5 kilograms of suspected ketamine, 37 pounds of cannabis and 503 grams of methamphetamine, with a street value of almost $490,000. They also seized $60,000 in Canadian currency.

Yan Jin Li, 36, and Jie Hui Chen, 26, have been charged with numerous drug-related offences, including importing a controlled substance, conspiracy to import a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance.
