York Regional Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal are investigating the fire in a Markham townhouse yesterday in which a mother and her two sons were critically injured.

The woman, 41, and boys, 6 and 14, were taken to hospital when York Region Paramedic Services and Markham Fire and Emergency Services responded to a 911 call for the fire on Bur Oak Avenue shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday, May 17, York Regional Police said.

The father, who was not at the home at the time of the fire, has been located, however, police said another member of the family, a 12-year-old boy, is still missing.

The fire has been extinguished, however, extensive structural damage continues to prevent entry into the home, police said.

The area of Bur Oak between Kennedy Road and William Berczy Boulevard remains closed for the investigation.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area to please come forward.

If you have information, contact York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7541, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online.
