Markham woman, 75, dies of injuries following 5-vehicle collision

Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Unit are seeking witnesses after a fatal collision in the City of Markham.

On Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, shortly before 5 p.m., York Regional Police were called to the intersection of Highway 7 East and Ninth Line for a collision involving five vehicles. When officers arrived they found four people involved in the collision suffering from injuries and three people who were not injured.

A passenger who was in a grey Honda Civic, a 75-year-old woman from Markham, was suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was transported to hospital where sadly she succumbed to her injuries. The driver from that same vehicle, a 76-year-old man from Markham, was also suffering from life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains.

The other people who were injured were treated for their minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police or who may have dashcam footage of the incident or the driving behavior prior to the collision, is asked to come forward.
