Markham man arrested in pedestrian hit-and-run collision

Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Unit have identified and charged a driver following a serious pedestrian fail-to-remain collision in the City of Markham.

On Friday, Feb. 26, 2021, at approximately 7:30 a.m., police were called to the intersection of Denison Street and Birchmount Road in Markham for a report of a fail-to-remain collision involving a pedestrian. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 58-year-old woman who had been struck by a white panel van that fled from the scene. The vehicle fled south on Birchmount Road, then went west on Steeles Avenue.

The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Through the investigation, officers were able to identify the vehicle involved. On March 1, 2021, the suspect was arrested in the City of Toronto and he is now facing charges.

  • Alan Biondic, 37, of Markham

CHARGES: 

  • Failure to Stop at Accident Involving Bodily Harm 
  • Dangerous Driving

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision, are being asked to please come forward.
