Man who removed GPS bracelet turns himself in after warrrant issued

Jimenez-Arguijo, originally charged in connection with a Schomberg shooting, now also charged with fail to comply with judicial release order

York Regional Police is thanking the media and community after the re-arrest of a 27-year-old man wanted for removing a court-ordered GPS ankle bracelet and failing to be at his residence according to court-ordered bail conditions.

Brayan Jimenez-Arguijo is now charged with fail to comply with judicial release order. He is being held in custody for a bail hearing, police said.

On Aug. 27 at about 9:30 p.m., police learned that Jimenez-Arguijo had not returned to his residence in Toronto and that he had removed the GPS ankle bracelet. It was soon recovered by officers in a parking lot in the area of Islington Avenue and Bergamot Avenue.

Shortly after media coverage about the warrant for his arrest on Aug. 30, the suspect contacted police. On the morning of Aug. 31, the suspect turned himself in to a police station in Toronto.

In June, York Regional Police Major arrested and charged eight people in connection with the investigation that began as a result of a shooting that occurred in Schomberg in February.

Jimenez-Arguijo was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and participate in activities of a criminal organization. During his bail hearing, he was placed on several conditions, including a condition that he remain in his residence between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. and wear a GPS ankle bracelet at all times.

York Regional Police also thanks the members of the Toronto Police Service 23 Division who worked on this case.
