Man seriously injured in Vaughan shooting was targeted: police

York Regional Police are seeking witnesses to an early-morning shooting Friday in Vaughan.

At about 3:20 a.m., a man approached an employee at a business in the area of Jacob Keefer Parkway and Basaltic Road, saying he had been shot and needed an ambulance. The man then left.

Police arrived to find the victim lying on Basaltic Road with gunshot injuries. A vehicle with numerous bullet holes was found nearby.

The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A 29-year-old man, who name has not been released by police, has been charged with firearms offences, including using a firearm/committing an indictable offence, possession of a weapon dangerous to a public place, discharging a firearm, and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

York Regional Police believes it was a targeted incident and says there is no threat to public safety.
