A Toronto man was killed after being struck by vehicle while standing at the side of Highway 427, near Highway 407, when his vehicle broke down in Vaughan Monday morning.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division - Aurora Detachment are investigating the three-vehicle collision that occurred Monday, June 5 at 9:58 a.m. when a northbound Dodge Caravan on Highway 427 broke down in a live lane of traffic, police said in a news release.

The driver exited his vehicle to inspect his tire when a tractor trailer swerved to avoid the Caravan. The pedestrian was subsequently struck by another vehicle in an adjacent lane, police said.

A 27-year-old Toronto male was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The OPP HSD Traffic Support Unit is assisting with the investigation. All northbound lanes were closed at Finch Ave. West until approximately 4 p.m.
