Man charged after gun shots fired in Richmond Hill

Investigators with the #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have seized a handgun and charged a 43-year-old man from the City of Oshawa after gunshots were fired in a parking lot in the City of Richmond Hill.

On Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, shortly after 4 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a parking lot at 50 High Tech Rd. for a report of shots fired. Information was received that there was a man with a gun in the parking lot, inside of a black Nissan Murano who had fired multiple shots inside of the vehicle. When officers arrived they located the unoccupied vehicle that had been damaged by bullets. With the assistance of officers in the York Regional Police helicopter Air2, the suspect was located nearby hiding behind a dumpster. He was placed under arrest and found to be in possession of a large amount of currency.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded handgun as well as shell casings. There was also damage caused by multiple bullets.

Charges Include:

  • Possess weapon contrary to prohibition order x2
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Discharging firearm
  • Possess prohibited device
  • Mischief to property
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

The investigation is ongoing and Investigators are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident, who has not yet spoken with police, to please come forward.
