Man arrested after windows damaged at East Gwillimbury plaza

A man has been arrested after the windows of several businesses in an East Gwillimbury plaza were damaged in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

York Regional Police responded to a call at the plaza, just north of Newmarket at Yonge Street and Green Lane East, for a report of a male tampering with the windows and doors of several businesses at 1 a.m. March 28. 

A suspect ran from officers when they arrived at the scene, but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit, York Regional Police said in a news release.

Police said they found fresh damage to the windows, along with some obscene graffiti, at six businesses in the plaza.

Jeffrey Norman William Robertson, 40, of no fixed address, was charged with six counts of mischief to property under $5,000 and failure to comply with a judicial release order.

He was held for a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Newmarket.
